Vol. 512 No. 6

Written Answers. - Schools Building Projects.

Michael Bell

Question:

374 Mr. Bell asked the Minister for Education and Science the reason for the continuing delay in the building of the new VEC college for the north side of Drogheda, County Louth; when this college will commence; the reason for the delay; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [26609/99]

An application for a new school to replace St. Laurence's vocational school in Drogheda, County Louth, has been made to the post-primary building unit of my Department.

This project is at stage 4 – detail design stage – of architectural planning. Unfortunately, considerable difficulties have been encountered with an aspect of this stage. These difficulties have required a number of amendments and these amendments have resulted in delaying the approval of this stage.

These amendments have again been resubmitted by County Louth Vocational Education Committee and are currently being considered.
