Vol. 512 No. 6

Written Answers. - State Assets.

Nora Owen

Question:

76 Mrs. Owen asked the Minister for Finance the Government's intention to sell State assets. [26923/99]

Proposals to dispose of State assets are considered by the Government on their merits on a case by case basis.

In so far as my Department's current activities are concerned, ICC Bank plc has been withdrawn from the market for the present. I will now be asking the board, management and staff to consider the options for the future of ICC Bank in the light of current developments. I will fully consider all the options for a way forward on receipt of the views of these parties. The Government agreed in February 1999 to a proposal from the boards of ACC and TSB for a merger and flotation. Planning for the merger and flotation has been ongoing since then.

Property and materials managed by the Office of Public Works that becomes surplus to State requirements is disposed of in accordance with established Government procedures, usually by means of public competition.
