Nora Owen

Question:

83 Mrs. Owen asked the Taoiseach if the millennium committee has evaluated a submission made by a group (details supplied) in Dublin 3 for funds to be made available for the erecting of a new building on the northside of Dublin for the promotion and performance of traditional arts; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [26735/99]

Richard Bruton

Question:

84 Mr. R. Bruton asked the Taoiseach if he will make funding available to a project (details supplied) as a major millennium project for north Dublin in line with commitments he has made. [26752/99]

I propose to take Questions Nos. 83 and 84 together.

The National Millennium Committee was established to advise on millennium projects for inclusion in the Government's millennium programme.

An application for millennium funding was received in respect of the proposal for the north Dublin city area referred to by the Deputies. The proposal was considered by the National Millennium Committee and it decided not to include it in its recommendations to the Government.

Donal Carey

Question:

85 Mr. D. Carey asked the Taoiseach the progress of an application made by a committee in Shannon, County Clare, for aid towards establishing a special museum outlining the history of aviation; if his attention has been drawn to the fact that only one meeting has taken place; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [26846/99]

The proposal referred to by the Deputy has been given considerable consideration by the National Millennium Committee. Since receiving the proposal the millennium office has been in regular contact with the Shannon proposers and indeed was of assistance in arranging meetings for them with the Department of Defence to discuss possible areas of co-operation between their respective aviation museum projects. Without prejudice to these discussions, the National Millennium Committee agreed to a presentation from the Shannon proposers on their project and this took place on 14 October.

On foot of this presentation the millennium committee has given further consideration to the proposal, in terms of its remit and available funding. The Shannon proposers will be formally advised on the position in due course.
