Vol. 512 No. 6

Written Answers. - Defence Forces Reserve.

David Stanton

Question:

108 Mr. Stanton asked the Minister for Defence further to Parliamentary Question No. 29 of 8 December 1999, when the non-statutory scheme was first established and availed of; if the scheme is operated under the same conditions as the social welfare occupational inquiries scheme in all aspects; the plans, if any, he has to review the scheme; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [27103/99]

The terms of the Emergency Powers (Compensation for Personal Injuries) (Local Defence Force) Scheme, 1942 were applied on an ex gratia basis to the FCA on its inception in 1946. These terms have been revised substantially over the years. While there are many similarities between the FCA scheme and the social welfare occupational injuries scheme, particularly as regards rates of payment, the qualifying conditions are not identical.

I have no immediate plans to revise the FCA scheme, the terms of which also apply to An Slua Muiri.
