186 Mr. Power asked the Minister for the Environment and Local Government the consideration, if any, he will give to upgrading the status of Newbridge town and allowing the elected members to take responsibility for the development of the town. [27200/99]

The Local Government Bill, drafting of which is at an advanced stage, will provide a new statutory framework and legislative status for all local authorities with an enhanced role for elected members.
