Pat Carey

Question:

220 Mr. P. Carey asked the Minister for Education and Science if he will examine the case of a person (details supplied) in Dublin 14 who, having been appointed as a teacher, left but returned to part-time teaching and then applied for permanency, which took two years to be processed by his Department; if incremental credit will be given to take this period into account; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [27245/99]

The person in question was proposed for appointment by City of Dublin VEC with effect from 1 September 1998. Following receipt of necessary clarifications, my Department sanctioned the appointment on 11 October 1999 with effect from the proposed date of appointment.

Payment of salary to the teacher concerned is a matter for the City of Dublin VEC. It is understood that the teacher is in receipt of incremental credit from 1 September 1998.
