Vol. 513 No. 3

Written Answers. - Statutory Registration Scheme.

Nora Owen

Question:

204 Mrs. Owen asked the Minister for Health and Children the reason a group (details supplied) in County Dublin is not included in the negotiations relating to the statutory registration for certain allied health professions; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [2455/00]

The statutory registration scheme currently being proposed by my Department is limited to ten main paramedical groups and does not include psychotherapists. Due to the nature and complexity of the negotiations involved we do not currently expect to extend the number of groups involved in the initial introduction of the scheme. However it is envisaged that the legislation will include a mechanism whereby further groups may be registered by ministerial order.

Officials of my Department have recently met with the representative body for psychotherapists and informed them of the position.
