Vol. 513 No. 3

Written Answers. - Roads Projects.

Enda Kenny

Question:

223 Mr. Kenny asked the Minister for the Environment and Local Government if he has received an application from Castlebar Urban District Council for road access from Springfield to Castle Street car park; when the application was received; the priority accorded to it; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [2387/00]

My Department received an application from Castlebar UDC on 12 November 1999 in which it sought funding in 2000 under the specific improvement grants scheme for a number of schemes, including Barrack Street-Castle Street link road. This application, together with all other applications under the specific improvement grants scheme, was considered in my Department, having regard to the need to prioritise projects, competing demands from other local authorities and the funds available for the scheme in 2000.

This project was not among the Mayo local authorities' ten projects selected for funding in 2000 totalling £2,295,000. The total grant allocation to the authorities, announced yesterday, is some £12.4 million.
