Vol. 513 No. 3

Written Answers. - Water and Sewerage Schemes.

Donal Carey

Question:

222 Mr. D. Carey asked the Minister for the Environment and Local Government if he has received an application from Clare County Council for funding to upgrade the sewerage scheme at Scarriff, County Clare, in view of the fact that the town has been designated for inclusion in the town renewal scheme and has been named as one of the bases for the proposed North-South waterways body; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [2384/00]

A preliminary report for a sewerage scheme to serve Scariff was received from Clare County Council in 1998 but has not been approved.

While the scheme is included in the list of projects submitted by the council in response to my Department's request for local authorities to undertake fresh assessments of the needs for capital works in their areas and to prioritise their proposals on the basis of the assessments, the priority ratings of individual schemes is not clear and the council has been requested to clarify the position. The priority lists will be taken into account in the framing of water services investment programmes for this and future years under the National Development Plan, 2000-2006.
