Vol. 513 No. 3

Written Answers. - Abuse Allegations.

Nora Owen

Question:

278 Mrs. Owen asked the Minister for Justice, Equality and Law Reform the action, if any, he has taken concerning a claim made by a former inmate of a prison (details supplied) concerning alleged injuries; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [2273/00]

Various allegations have been made by the person referred to by the Deputy concerning alleged injuries sustained while in custody. The prison authorities at Mountjoy Prison and Loughan House have submitted reports to my Department on foot of these. The claim has not yet been substantiated. Additional reports have been sought from the prison authorities to enable the claim to be fully considered. On receipt of these reports I would propose that a decision will issue to the claimant in early course.
