Vol. 513 No. 3

Written Answers. - Broadcasting Legislation.

Brendan Howlin

Question:

91 Mr. Howlin asked the Minister for Arts, Heritage, Gaeltacht and the Islands the legislative proposals, if any, she has in regard to digital radio broadcasting; and if she will make a statement on the matter. [2332/00]

Before consideration can be given to legislative proposals for digital audio broadcasting, DAB, in Ireland it will be necessary to develop a national policy for its introduction. This will require extensive consultation with all relevant organisations in the sound broadcasting sector. My current priority in the broadcasting area is the enactment of the Broadcasting Bill, 1999. When this has been achieved, I will pursue the consultation process referred to.
