Vol. 513 No. 4

Written Answers. - Driving Licences.

Denis Naughten

Question:

185 Mr. Naughten asked the Minister for the Environment and Local Government the number of drivers on a provisional licence; and the number of drivers on a full licence. [2715/00]

It is estimated that some 371,000 provisional licences and some 1,457,000 full driving licences were current as at 31 December 1998.

These estimates take account of the number of driving tests passed in the preceding two years and accordingly adjust the statistics for provisional and full driving licences as set out in table 25 of the Irish bulletin of vehicle and driver statistics 1998 which embody an element of double counting. The bulletin is available in the Oireachtas Library.
