Vol. 513 No. 6

Written Answers. - Garda Transport.

Richard Bruton

Question:

387 Mr. R. Bruton asked the Minister for Justice, Equality and Law Reform the number of squad cars available in Garda stations (details supplied); the scale of the centralised resource of squad cars available to deal with call outs in these areas; and if he has satisfied himself that this service is sufficient to meet these needs promptly and sufficiently. [3204/00]

The Garda authorities who are responsible for the day to day management of the force have informed me that the number of patrol vehicles, including cars and vans both marked and unmarked, available for calls in the areas referred to in the question are 26. This number can, however, be augmented, if required, by cars from other districts or divisions or from specialist units.

I am further informed that the Garda authorities are satisfied that the number of vehicles that are available is sufficient to respond promptly to any call outs in the areas concerned.
