Vol. 514 No. 1

Written Answers. - Defence Forces Property.

Jack Wall

Question:

150 Mr. Wall asked the Minister for Defence the position of the report on the Curragh plains and environs; when it will be published; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [3675/00]

The position is that the future management of the Curragh in the context of the report is at present being considered in conjunction with other relevant Departments with a view to bringing recommendations to Government. It is my intention to publish the report following the decision of the Government in the matter.

Question:

151 Mr. Wall asked the Minister for Defence if section 7, item 10, of the circular HRT695 published on 18 May 1995 will be applied to the sale of houses at Orchard Park, the Curragh, County Kildare; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [3676/00]

It would not be appropriate to apply the terms of paragraph 10 of Circular HRT 6/95, which was issued by the Department of the Environment on 18 May 1995, to the sales of the houses at Orchard Park as the properties have already been valued by the Commissioner of Valuation. It is considered that the prices at which the houses have been offered for sale are fair and reasonable.

Question:

152 Mr. Wall asked the Minister for Defence if officials of his Department will meet with persons who are overholders with a view to solving the problems of these cases; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [3677/00]

Members of the Permanent Defence Force in occupation of married quarters are required to vacate such quarters on discharge from the force. Some former members have failed to fulfil this requirement and continue in unauthorised occupation of the quarters. Married quarters were introduced for the benefit of serving personnel and the current situation cannot be allowed to continue. It is my Department's intention to regain possession of all overheld quarters and officials of the Department are prepared to meet with all interested parties to achieve that objective.
