Vol. 514 No. 1

Written Answers. - Crime Levels.

Jack Wall

Question:

216 Mr. Wall asked the Minister for Justice, Equality and Law Reform the crime statistics for Kildare in each of the years 1998 and 1999; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [3670/00]

Crime statistics are published in the annual reports of the Garda Síochána, copies of which are available in the Oireachtas Library. The reports contain information on a national, regional and divisional basis. The most recent annual report details the crime statistics for 1998.

I am informed by the Garda authorities that crime statistics are compiled on the basis of Garda operational areas, which do not always coincide with county boundaries. For this reason the annual report does not give a separate figure for Kildare as it is included as part of the Carlow-Kildare division.
