Vol. 514 No. 3

Written Answers. - Employment Appeals Tribunal.

David Stanton

Question:

81 Mr. Stanton asked the Tánaiste and Minister for Enterprise, Trade and Employment the cost of the establishment and operation of the Employment Appeals Tribunal in the past 12 months; the number of cases heard; and if she will make a statement on the matter. [4091/00]

The cost of the Employment Appeals Tribunal last year was £905,000. Four fifths of this amount, £724,000, was borne by the Vote of my Depart ment and the remainder, £181,000, was borne by the social insurance fund.

The number of cases disposed of under the various Acts was 2,621 in 1999 compared to 3,644 cases in 1998. The decrease in the number of cases disposed of was due mainly to a reduction of 800 in the number of minimum notice cases.
