Vol. 515 No. 2

Written Answers. - School Staffing.

Nora Owen

Question:

218 Mrs. Owen asked the Minister for Education and Science if an appeal by a person (details supplied) in County Dublin to a decision by County Dublin VEC for appointing another person to the position of deputy principal in a community college has been investigated; if so, the outcome of the investigation; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [5638/00]

A permanent post as deputy principal in a vocational school in which there are 11 or more teachers must be publicly advertised and filled through open competition. My Department's role is one of sanction only, provided proper selection procedures have been followed.

There is no agreed appeal procedure in respect of appointments to posts as deputy principal.
