Vol. 515 No. 3

Written Answers. - Court Facilities.

Willie Penrose

Question:

288 Mr. Penrose asked the Minister for Justice, Equality and Law Reform the position in relation to the provision of video link facilities in courts outside of Dublin to permit young witnesses to give evidence in sexual assault cases; when these facilities will be provided at Mullingar courthouse; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [5845/00]

I am informed that the question of providing video link facilities at major court venues outside of Dublin is being actively considered by the Courts Service. It is not possible at this stage for the Courts Service to say if, or when, such facilities will be provided in Mullingar. In the meantime, section 17 of the Criminal Evidence Act, 1992, provides for the transfer of a case requiring video link facilities to a venue which has such facilities.
