Vol. 515 No. 3

Written Answers. - Road Traffic Offences.

Ivan Yates

Question:

293 Mr. Yates asked the Minister for Justice, Equality and Law Reform if statistics are retained within the District Court functional areas and Garda sub-divisional areas regarding convictions within County Wexford in relation to drink driving offences; and if he has satisfied himself that there is even handed enforcement of these regulations within the county. [6035/00]

I am informed by the Garda authorities that the information requested is not readily available. Statistics relating to cases where proceedings are taken in relation to drink driving are retained by the District Court and prosecuting gardaí, and could only be obtained in the format requested by the Deputy by the expenditure of a disproportionate amount of staff time and resources. I am assured by the Garda authorities that the enforcement of the drink driving regulations is given a high priority by gardaí and is applied in a uniform manner.
