Vol. 515 No. 4

Written Answers. - Direct Telephone Lines.

Richard Bruton

Question:

60 Mr. R. Bruton asked the Tánaiste and Minister for Enterprise, Trade and Employment if she will provide Members of the Oireachtas with direct line telephone numbers into key sections of her Department where regular queries arise such as labour rights, community employment rules and enterprise supports. [6421/00]

In addition to the three sections mentioned in the question my Department has responsibility for, inter alia, trade, commercial regulations, science and technology, industrial relations, competition policy, consumer protection and many other diverse areas.

Because of this diversity, and in line with the strategic management initiative to deliver better Government, an information and communications unit was established in my Department in June 1998. The function of this unit is to provide a front line information service on all the Department's activities to the Department's customers.

The information and communications unit has responsibility for the Department's website at www.entemp.ie. The website has information on all the Department's activities and includes the telephone numbers of the key personnel dealing with the activities. The website is regularly updated.

The Department has a DDI, direct dial inward, telephone system which means each staff member can be telephoned directly for information. In addition, there is a dedicated information unit for queries on employment rights issues at telephone number 6313131.
