Vol. 515 No. 6

Written Answers. - Army Barracks.

John McGuinness

Question:

103 Mr. McGuinness asked the Minister for Defence the plans, if any, he has to refurbish the existing buildings in James Stephens Barracks, Kilkenny, in view of the status of the barracks as a headquarters; the amount of money spent on the barracks in the past three years, if he will embark on a building and refurbishment programme and decentralise part or all of his Department to Kilkenny in view of his commitment not to close the barracks; and if he has examined other users for the buildings, within the defence structure, to utilise the full site and potential of the barracks site. [6692/00]

In recent years refurbishment works were carried out at James Stephens Barracks at a cost of over £74,000. Routine maintenance will continue to be carried out as required and other works will be undertaken as necessary and as resources permit.

There are no plans to change the usage of the barracks.
