Question:

170 Mr. Ring asked the Minister for Health and Children the number of patients in County Mayo who have had hip and knee operations in Cappagh Hospital in each of the years from 1991 to date. [6637/00]

The provision of medical treatment to eligible persons in this instance is the responsibility of St. Mary's Orthopaedic Hospital, Cappagh. My Department has asked the chief executive officer of the board to investigate the position in relation to this case and to reply to the Deputy directly.

171 Mr. Ring asked the Minister for Health and Children the number of orthopaedic surgeons who hold clinics in Mayo General Hospital, Castlebar, County Mayo; when these clinics are held; and the number of surgeons in attendance for each of the years from 1995 to date. [6638/00]

172 Mr. Ring asked the Minister for Health and Children the number of hip and knee operations on patients from County Mayo carried out in Merlin Park Hospital, Galway; and the number of persons who have been on the waiting list for each treatment in each of the years from 1995 to date. [6639/00]

173 Mr. Ring asked the Minister for Health and Children if there will be an orthopaedic service for hip and knee surgery in the new section of Mayo General Hospital, Castlebar, County Mayo. [6640/00]

I propose to take Questions Nos. 171 to 173, inclusive, together.

The provision of medical services to eligible persons in this instance is the statutory responsibility of the Western Health Board. The Deputy will be aware that the phase two development of Mayo General Hospital will include the provision of orthopaedic services there. My Department has asked the chief executive officer of the board to reply to the Deputy directly in relation to the other information requested.
