23 Mr. McDowell asked the Minister for Education and Science if his Department proposes to establish the means of assessing the number of students from the PAYE sector, self employed or other sources of income who are in receipt of ESF grants; and when he will make this information available. My Department funds the European social fund-aided maintenance grant scheme for trainees on third level courses, which is administered by the vocational education committees.
Statistical data on the family income status of successful applicants under the headings indicated by the Deputy are not currently compiled. However, my Department will contact the vocational education committees to establish how, and in what format, such data could be compiled and I will advise the Deputy of the outcome of these discussions.
