Vol. 516 No. 4

Written Answers. - School Staffing.

Trevor Sargent

Question:

117 Mr. Sargent asked the Minister for Education and Science the progress, if any, made with the application for a resource teacher in Rush national school; and the assistance, if any, available from his Department to help with costs associated with sending a person to the ACLD serving children in the catchment area of Lusk, County Dublin. [8385/00]

My Department's inspectorate is currently investigating the application referred to by the Deputy. I will revert to the Deputy as soon as the inspectorate's report has been considered.

My Department does not have funding available to support the attendance of individual children at privately operated programmes such as those provided by ACLD. However, I would point out that my Department has provided funding of £50,000 to ACLD in 1999 and a similar sum will be provided in the current year to support the association in its work.
