Written Answers. - Baldonnel Aerodrome.

Pat Rabbitte

Question:

97 Mr. Rabbitte asked the Minister for Defence the discussions, if any, his Department has had with the Football Association of Ireland regarding potential problems for air traffic to and from Baldonnel arising from the proposed construction of a new stadium nearby; the outcome of the discussions; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [8798/00]

Austin Currie

Question:

152 Mr. Currie asked the Minister for Defence if his Department has lodged an objection against the FAI proposals to develop a soccer stadium in close proximity to Baldonnel; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [8785/00]

I propose to take Questions Nos. 97 and 152 together.

My Department has lodged an objection with South Dublin County Council in connection with an application by the FAI to erect a new stadium at Gibbons townland as the proposal may impact on the Department's policy on the safety of aviation operations and the future development of Casement Aerodrome. In this regard, a meeting with representatives of the FAI to discuss the matter took place recently and the Department clarified its position on the FAI application.
A further meeting between the Department and the FAI will be held in the near future to further discuss the matter.
