Vol. 517 No. 1

Written Answers. - Hospital Doctors.

Alan Shatter

Question:

147 Mr. Shatter asked the Minister for Health and Children the plans, if any, he has to intervene to avert the threatened industrial action by non-consultant hospital doctors; and the arrangements he is making to guarantee proper patient care in the event of action taking place. [9225/00]

Officials of the Health Service Employers Agency and my Department remain in contact with the Irish Medical Organisation which represents non-consultant hospital doctors. I remain hopeful that unresolved issues can be addressed through normal industrial relations procedures and that industrial action will be unnecessary. In the event that NCHDs engage in some form of industrial action, I am confident that arrangements can be made to guarantee proper patient care.
