Vol. 517 No. 2

Written Answers. - Water and Sewerage Schemes.

Ulick Burke

Question:

117 Mr. U. Burke asked the Minister for the Environment and Local Government the plans, if any, he has to review the rural towns and villages scheme for funding small sewerage schemes; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [9414/00]

The rural towns and villages initiative was introduced in the 1999 budget with a provision of £45 million over three years, later increased to £80 million over the four years up to 2002. All the available funding has been committed.

I do not propose to review the initiative at this early stage and any sewerage schemes not included in it will fall to be considered as part of the normal water and sewerage services investment programme or under the devolved small schemes programme operated by the local authorities.

Question:

118 Mr. U. Burke asked the Minister for the Environment and Local Government when he will approve Galway County Council's request to appoint consultants for the Kinvara sewerage scheme in view of the fact the required hydrological report has been completed; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [9415/00]

This scheme was approved under the serviced land initiative in 1998. No further proposals relating to the project have been received by my Department.
