Vol. 517 No. 2

Written Answers. - Excise Duties.

Eamon Gilmore

Question:

24 Mr. Gilmore asked the Minister for Finance if he will consider reducing the level of excise duties on petrol and home heating oils in view of the substantial increase in the cost of these products; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [9348/00]

I am aware of the recent increases in the price of mineral oils for home heating and for motoring which are due to an increase in the price of crude oil on the world market and the rise in the value of the dollar, both of which are factors external to this economy.

As the House is aware, in my last budget, I reduced the excise duty on kerosene for home heating from £37.30 to £25.00 per 1,000 litres. I have no plans for further decreases in the excise duty rates on mineral oils at this time.
