Vol. 517 No. 2

Written Answers. - Flood Relief.

Brendan Smith

Question:

26 Mr. B. Smith asked the Minister for Finance the proposals, if any, he has to undertake flood relief work in view of the widespread flooding caused by the River Erne in County Cavan; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [9196/00]

The Office of Public Works recently completed an inspection of parts of the river Erne catchment, which was undertaken because of complaints received from a number of landowners in County Cavan concerning flooding. The areas in question are part of the river Erne drainage district. Responsibility for the maintenance of the channels in this drainage district lies with the local authority and a copy of the inspection report is being forwarded to them for their information and attention. Consequently, the Office of Public Works do not have any proposals to undertake flood relief works in the Erne catchment area.
