Vol. 517 No. 2

Written Answers. - Black Economy.

Thomas P. Broughan

Question:

34 Mr. Broughan asked the Minister for Finance the way in which it is intended to strengthen the role of the existing monitoring group on tax evasion and fraud arising from the commitment given in the Programme for Prosperity and Fairness; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [9364/00]

Paragraph 6 of framework 1 of the Programme for Prosperity and Fairness confirms the social partners' commitment to strengthening the role of the existing black economy monitoring group, which was set up under previous partnership agreements. This may involve amendments to the group's terms of reference. I understand that initial discussions on strengthening the role of the group have taken place and will continue at the next meeting of the group which is scheduled for 3 May.
