Question:

231 Mrs. Owen asked the Minister for the Environment and Local Government the plans, if any, he has to carry out a major onslaught on the litter problem; the resources, if any, he will provide in this regard; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [9670/00]

I propose to take Questions Nos. 225 and 231 together.

I refer to the reply to Question No. 26 of 29 February 2000, which outlines the programme of measures being pursued by my Department to combat litter. The recently published Revised Estimates for Public Services 2000 include a provision of £800,000 in my Department's estimates to fund this programme.
