Vol. 517 No. 4

Written Answers. - Manufacturing Industry.

Eamon Gilmore

Question:

238 Mr. Gilmore asked the Minister for Arts, Heritage Gaeltacht and the Islands the progress, if any, made in relation to a proposed manufacturing industry for an advance factory at Meenmore, Dungloe, County Donegal; and if she will make a statement on the matter. [10168/00]

I understand from Údarás na Gaeltachta that senior management of an tÚdarás travelled to Malaysia last month to assess the progress of a project which has been agreed for the main factory on the Dungloe industrial estate. The principals of the company indicated that they will come to Ireland shortly to begin the implementation of the project and it is hoped that the enterprise will be in operation before the end of the year. Some projects and inquiries have been discussed for the second factory, originally built as an advance factory, on the Dungloe industrial estate. No specific project has been identified as yet for this second factory but an tÚdarás will continue in its efforts to secure a suitable industry for it. Two businesses in the information technology sector have been secured by an tÚdarás for Teach Cheanada – the third business unit on the Dungloe industrial estate.
