134 Mr. Roche asked the Minister for Social, Community and Family Affairs the name, the year of establishment, the basis under statute, statutory instrument or otherwise of commercial and non-commercial State-sponsored bodies under the aegis of his Department; the fees paid to the chairman and ordinary directors of these bodies; and when these fees were last agreed. The statutory agencies operating under the aegis of my Department are the Pensions Board, the Combat Poverty Agency and the National Social Service Board. The Pensions Board was established in December 1990 under the Pensions Act, 1990, and comprises 15 members including the chairperson. The legislation provides for the payment of fees to members of the board. The level of fees were fixed in December 1991 by agreement with the Department of Finance. These amount to £2,000 per annum for the chairperson and £1,000 per annum for the ordinary members of the board (excluding the two civil servant members).
The Combat Poverty Agency – CPA – was established in September 1986 under the Combat Poverty Agency Act, 1986. The board currently comprises 16 members. Under the legislation, no remuneration other than travelling and subsistence allowance can be paid to members of the board.
The National Social Service Board was established in September 1984 under the National Social Service Board Act, 1984. The existing board comprises a chairperson and 19 ordinary members. There are no fees payable, other than travelling and subsistence allowance, to either the chairman or ordinary members of the board.
