Frances Fitzgerald

Question:

98 Ms Fitzgerald asked the Minister for Social, Community and Family Affairs if, further to Parliamentary Question No. 269 of 15 February 2000, he will remove the complete record of the conversation held on record from his departmental files as this is outside normal procedure and unnecessary; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [10567/00]

I propose to take Questions Nos. 66 and 98 together.

I will write to the Deputy in relation to the employee of my Department who was the subject of disciplinary action and deal with the various issues raised by the Deputy in the letter she sent to me in association with the parliamentary question.

With regard to the record referred to by the Deputy, this consists of a document created by a manager in one of the Department's offices as a record of an incident following a telephone call he received from the person who is the subject of the Deputy's question.

It would be inappropriate to delete a departmental record in the manner suggested by the Deputy. It has already been made clear to the person concerned that it is open to her to comment on or add to this record in so far as it affects her personally and any such comments will be associated with the record in question.
