Vol. 517 No. 6

Written Answers. - Electricity Generation.

Ulick Burke

Question:

147 Mr. U. Burke asked the Minister for Public Enterprise the plans, if any, she has to provide easy access to ESB power lines for producers of electricity for windfarm; her views on whether the price currently offered by ESB to such producers is realistic [10693/00]

My Department has hosted a number of competitions for rights to generate electricity from renewable energy sources including wind and to sell the output to the ESB at guaranteed prices. The price tendered in each case reflects the corresponding bid price volunteered by each successful applicant. The price paid by the ESB is, in reality, decided by the electricity producer in each case.

The renewable energy strategy group which I set up following the Green Paper on Sustainable Energy is considering, inter alia, the question of grid access and is due to report in the next few months.
