Vol. 518 No. 1

Written Answers. - Nursing Home Subventions.

Richard Bruton

Question:

133 Mr. R. Bruton asked the Minister for Health and Children if he will amend the rules for nursing home subvention so that the treatment of a patient's home which is not occupied by a dependant would be valued at 5% of the market value per year regardless of whether the owner sells the home or retains the home in order that patients would be treated equitably. Question:

134 Mr. R. Bruton asked the Minister for Health and Children if he will increase the savings that a patient can hold without affecting the rate of nursing home subvention. [11156/00]

I propose to take Questions Nos. 133 and 134 together.

My Department is currently reviewing the Second Schedule of the Nursing Homes (Subvention) Regulations, 1993, which sets out the general rules for the assessment of means in respect of an application for a nursing home subvention. This review will examine the specific monetary values set out in these regulations which date back to 1993, when the regulations came into operation.
