Ulick Burke

Question:

139 Mr. U. Burke asked the Minister for the Environment and Local Government the number of people waiting for a driving test in County Galway; the waiting time for this test; and if the failure rate is higher in County Galway than the rest of the country. [11023/00]

Some 4,542 driving test applications were on hand in Galway test centres at end March 2000. Of these, some 1,084 persons have indicated that they are not currently available for test, and some 1,091 test appointments have been scheduled. The average longest waiting time for the Galway test centres is 28.5 weeks.

The average failure rate at the Galway test centres in 1999 was 39.9% compared to 40.8% nationally.
