Vol. 518 No. 1

Written Answers. - Garda Stations.

Ulick Burke

Question:

176 Mr. U. Burke asked the Minister for Justice, Equality and Law Reform the completion date for refurbishment works at Loughrea Garda station; the costs of the works to be carried out; the additional facilities provided in the station; if any new functions on a regional or local basis will be centred at the station; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [11033/00]

A major restructuring and renovation project at Loughrea Garda station, costing approximately £950,000, is nearing completion.

The works entail incorporating the adjoining married quarters to the existing station, constructing a three storey extension to the rear and an additional storey to the side of the premises. An oil-fired central heating system is being installed and the entire electrical system is being upgraded. New garages and stores are being pro vided at the rear of the station, together with a vehicle compound and car park.
I am informed by the Garda authorities that there are no plans, at present, to centre new functions at this station.
