Vol. 518 No. 1

Written Answers. - FÁS Training Programmes.

Bernard J. Durkan

Question:

101 Mr. Durkan asked the Tánaiste and Minister for Enterprise, Trade and Employment if she has sought or received any information on the number of FÁS training or other places availed of by persons in each of the past three years; if she has considered such information when determining spending in these areas; and if she will make a statement on the matter. [11140/00]

Following inquiries made with FÁS, I can provide the following information on the total number of people who started in each of the last three calendar years in a FÁS training scheme or FÁS programme:

1997

1998

1999

Training

47,002

38,446

37,501

Programmes

56,641

58,919

59,535

Total

103,643

97,635

97,036

The question of allocation of financial resources is an operational matter for FÁS. I understand that it allocates available funding to each of its regions, according to the training and employment needs of the region.
