Vol. 518 No. 3

Written Answers. - Special Educational Needs.

Liam Aylward

Question:

282 Mr. Aylward asked the Minister for Education and Science if he will examine the case of a person (details supplied) in County Kilkenny for whom a resource teacher was recently sanctioned for three hours per week; if he will sanction daily remedial services for this person who is four years behind with his school work and is urgently in need of every possible assistance; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [11380/00]

The fact that the child in question is in receipt of special resource teaching support does not preclude him from being included on the caseload of the school's remedial teacher. My Department has arranged for the visiting teacher to liaise with the child's class teacher, the remedial teacher and the resource teacher at the school to advise them on how best to cater for the special needs of the child in question.
