Vol. 518 No. 4

Written Answers. - Hospital Services.

Richard Bruton

Question:

177 Mr. R. Bruton asked the Minister for Health and Children the plans, if any, he has to develop rehabilitation and diagnostic facilities in the community on Dublin's north side which would take pressure off the hospitals for scarce beds. [11998/00]

My Department is looking at the overall situation in relation to medical rehabilitation services for the country as a whole with the objective of formulating a national plan for the development of such services.

Richard Bruton

Question:

178 Mr. R. Bruton asked the Minister for Health and Children if his attention has been drawn to the fact that Beaumont Hospital is receiving more than 2,500 patients from outside its catchment area for treatments in areas where the hospital is not resourced as a national specialty and this is restricting the availability of beds for elective patients; and if he will make arrangements for extra resources to be provided if the hospital is to continue to provide services for non-catchment area patients. [11999/00]

The matter raised by the Deputy became the responsibility of the Eastern Regional Health Authority on 1 March 2000. I have therefore asked the regional chief executive officer to investigate the matter and reply directly to the Deputy.
