Vol. 518 No. 4

Written Answers. - Hospital Doctors.

Seán Ryan

Question:

196 Mr. S. Ryan asked the Minister for Health and Children the plans, if any, to establish an independent inquiry into complaints made by over 50 women relating to the treatment they received from a senior obstetrician/gynaecologist in Our Lady of Lourdes Hospital, Drogheda; and the progress to date. [12061/00]

The provision of medical services at Our Lady of Lourdes Hospital, Drogheda is the statutory responsibility of the North-Eastern Health Board in the first instance. I understand from the board that the case in question has been referred to the Medical Council which is independently reviewing the matter.
