Vol. 518 No. 5

Written Answers. - Organ Retention.

Bernard Allen

Question:

146 Mr. Allen asked the Minister for Health and Children if he will make a statement on a report in a newspaper (details supplied) of 14 April 2000 regarding an apology given by consult ants of Our Lady's Hospital, Crumlin, to the families of children at the centre of the organ retention scandal. [12308/00]

The report in the newspaper was somewhat distorted and misleading in that it selectively quoted from the records of a telephone conversation which primarily related to whether or not a particular medical doctor at Crumlin should participate in a meeting requested by the Parents for Justice group.

I will supply the Deputy with a copy of the pertinent records from which it appeared that the newspaper report was derived and he can draw his own conclusions from the content of these records.
