Vol. 518 No. 5

Written Answers. - School Staffing.

Liam Lawlor

Question:

231 Mr. Lawlor asked the Minister for Education and Science if he will outline the details of the staffing directive for a school (details supplied) in County Dublin so that recruitment advertisements can be placed for the requisite teaching staff. [12196/00]

The staffing of a school for a particular year is determined by the enrolment on 30 September of the previous year. The enrolment of the school referred to by the Deputy on 30 September 1999 was 156 which warrants a staffing of principal plus five mainstream class teachers for the 2000-01 school year.

As the school was classified as a developing school for the 1999-2000 school year the appointment of the fourth and fifth mainstream class teachers was sanctioned from 1 September 1999.

If the school authorities feel that the projected enrolment for September 2000 meets the criteria for classification as a developing school as outlined in Circular 15/99, they should submit an application for an additional teaching post to my Department.

The application, which should include details of projected enrolments for September 2000, will be considered by my Department and the board of management will be notified of the position.
