Vol. 518 No. 6

Written Answers. - Bridge Widening.

Michael Ring

Question:

235 Mr. Ring asked the Minister for Finance if a bridge in County Mayo will be widened to accommodate modern machinery for houses and an engineering works; and if this project can be given priority. [12362/00]

The bridge in question is located in the Moy catchment drainage scheme and is maintained to design standard by the Office of Public Works as part of the maintenance of that scheme. The bridge was examined recently and found to be in a sound condition. Consequently, there are no plans to replace it. However, the Office of Public Works would have no objection to the landowners themselves upgrading the bridge if they so wish provided that they comply with the Office of Public Works's requirements.

Question:

236 Mr. Ring asked the Minister for Finance the plans, if any, he has to widen a bridge (details supplied) in County Mayo. [12363/00]

The bridge in question is outside the boundary of the Moy catchment scheme and consequently the Commissioners of Public Works have no responsibility for the maintenance of the bridge nor have they any plans to do any work on the bridge.
