Vol. 518 No. 6

Written Answers. - Judicial Resignations.

Jim Higgins

Question:

470 Mr. Higgins (Mayo) asked the Minister for Justice, Equality and Law Reform the occasions on which a District Court judge resigned or was removed from office. [12570/00]

There has never been an occasion when a District Court judge has been removed from office. There have, however, been occasions, since the foundation of the State, when District Court judges have resigned voluntarily before their actual statutory retirement age.

I cannot provide the Deputy with the precise details of the judges who retired early as it would entail the allocation of significant staff resources to check the archives at the expense of other operational duties.
