148 Ms O'Sullivan asked the Minister for Justice, Equality and Law Reform the number of Garda personnel specifically assigned to combat the supply of drugs and to address the demand for drugs in each of the large urban divisions, Dublin, Cork, Limerick, Waterford and Galway; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [13166/00]

I am informed by the Garda authorities that the number of Garda personnel specifically assigned to combating the supply and demand for drugs in the areas referred to is as follows:

The Garda national drugs unit has responsibility for combating the supply and demand for drugs on a national basis. In addition, all members of the Garda Síochána have a responsibility for, and are tasked with, the enforcement of drugs legislation.
