Vol. 519 No. 2

Written Answers. - Cancer Screening Programme.

Bernard Allen

Question:

212 Mr. Allen asked the Minister for Health and Children if he will make a statement on the continuing confusion surrounding the role of gen eral practitioners in the national cervical screening programme which has stalled the implementation of the pilot projects in the mid-west. [13588/00]

Discussions are currently under way between the Health Service Employers Agency, representing health service management, and the Irish Medical Organisation, representing general practitioners, in relation to the fees which should be payable to general practitioners for their involvement in phase 1 of the national cervical screening programme in the Mid-Western Health Board area. I am hopeful that it will be possible to reach agreement on this matter in the near future so as to avoid any undue delay in relation to the implementation of phase 1 of the national programme.
