251 Ms Cooper-Flynn asked the Minister for the Environment and Local Government the reason persons (details supplied) in County Mayo have not received the correct retirement gratuity after 31 years service with the fire service. [13463/00]
Following agreement on new rates of retainer for retained fire-fighters with effect from 1 July 1997, local authorities were authorised by circular letter, EL 13/99, of 30 November 1999, to recalculate the gratuities of fire-fighters who had retired after 1 July 1997 on the basis of the revised rates. I understand that Mayo County Council is currently revising the gratuities in question and expect payments to be made within a matter of weeks.
