Vol. 519 No. 2

Written Answers. - Waterways Service.

Enda Kenny

Question:

263 Mr. Kenny asked the Minister for Arts, Heritage Gaeltacht and the Islands if charges per acre of water surface area are being charged for marinas, berths and waters controlled by her or by Waterways Ireland; and if she will make a statement on the matter. [13263/00]

There were no defini tive standard charges per acre of water surface area being charged for marinas, berths and waters controlled by the waterways service.

In the past when developers proposed new or additional facilities encroaching into the jurisdiction of the waterways service, Office of Public Works valuers were engaged to assess the value of the development and to advise on the level of charges that should be applied.

Obviously Waterways Ireland must, inter alia, develop a policy on charges, etc. that would apply to the use of property under its control. Such changes would be a matter for the North-South Ministerial Council to approve.
